Camping with kids who have never slept out can be kind of tricky once the sunsets and it becomes dark outside. Many smaller children are afraid of those little noises in the night that they are not used to hearing especially when there is only a thin tent wall between them and the outside. But you can ease their camping fears by providing them with an easy to use camping lantern that they can turn on to ward off those things that bump in the night. There are easy to use battery operated Coleman lanterns for kids that are perfect for making camping fun for the little ones you take outdoors.

Getting a campfire going can sometimes be tough especially if the wood you are using has gotten wet and is not at its driest. Too many times I see campers poor gasoline or camping stove fuel onto their fire in order to get it to light easily. This is extremely dangerous and could result in severe burns to anyone in the vicinity. Luckily there is a very economical way to light a campfire with ease and that is Coleman fire starters. To use these handy sticks simply light one and place it into the kindling and wood you want to get started. These sticks will light even when wet and will continue to burn so that you can get some kindling going and be on your way to a warm cozy camp fire.

Many first time campers are confused about camping stoves and the options that are available for fueling them at your camp. Some campers will tell you that propane stoves are better while others will lean toward those that use white gas. Those that prefer propane prefer the fact it is more like cooking on a gas stove at home and that the propane bottles are easy to handle. While those that prefer gas camping stoves love that they create more heat and no odor, which they feel, makes their camp food so much better. Either camp stove you end up choosing will be a excellent choice as both types can handle the average camp cooking needs.

Sleeping bags can be expensive and if you camp in the cooler temperatures your summer bag may just not be warm enough for you for comfortable sleeping. But you do not have to buy a whole new sleeping bag for those cooler temps just so you can sleep warm enough. There are sleeping bag liners, which will add warmth but will not mean buying another piece of camping gear. These liners are used as a second sleeping bag inside of your bag and will increase the temperature rating by several degrees so you can sleep warmer when it is colder outside.

Many people buy a camping tent based on how many people the model claims it will sleep and then they are disappointed when there is barely just enough room for those people to place their sleeping bags. When many camping tents are rated for how many people it will sleep it is based on the maximum number of people it will sleep with no gear inside with them. For a backpacker who wants minimal weight in their packs this is usually an accurate way to shop for your tent. But for others it is better to base your tent size on the square footage available and figure for each camper twice the size of their sleeping bag for their needs.

Thanksgiving is next week and for many this means it is time to get together to enjoy the season. For many this means finding a place in your home to put everyone as well as all the food that gets served up to celebrate. One great solution if the weather in your area permits is to use a Coleman gazebo or canopy to host your guests outside. These Coleman tents are easy to set up and make a great place to host a gathering so that everyone does not have to cram him or herself into a living room that may not be big enough to adequately hold the group.

Ask any outdoorsman what the absolute worst thing that can happen on a camping trip and most of them will say having a wet sleeping bag. Even synthetic sleeping bags, which are known for drying out quickly, are miserable to sleep in when they get wet. One way to keep your bag dry so you can have a great nights sleep no matter what the weather is by packing your sleeping bag in a dry gear bag. Dry bags are absolutely essential when you are on the water but for the average camper just in the outdoors these bags are also a great way to keep the gear that needs to stay dry that way for a comfortable trip.

Taking a camp stove to and from the campgrounds can be a little messy if you have a car and do not always get your grill clean after each use. Face it we are all human and I never get my camp stove as clean as it was when it was new and I do not want this to end up in the back of my car. Luckily Camp Chef makes some durable carry bags for their great Camp Chef stoves and grills. These covers will not only keep my car safe from anything that may be on the grill but also will protect the grill which will help it last longer despite lots of transports to the camp site.

Camping when the temperatures get cooler is something that any family can still do together despite those cooler temps and heading back to school. The key is to have the right equipment and there are many companies out there making kids camping gear that is made for these times and work great. The Backside and Black Pine Sports both have sleeping bags that rate at zero degrees to keep your kids warm even when the temperature reaches single digits. The camping season does not have to end when the sun starts to set sooner, it can just begin for a great time of year when animals are easier to see and many campgrounds are empty so you can have them to yourself.

Backpackers have a very limited amount of space to pack the things they will need on their trip in their bag. For many their sleeping bag is the bulkiest thing in their pack and takes up more space that could be used for more food or rain gear they may need on the way. One way to alleviate this is to pack your sleeping bags and other soft goods into compression sacks. These sacks are designed to help pack down things like sleeping bags and down jackets so they are at their smallest and take up the least amount of space possible making room for the other things you may need on your hike.

In many parts of the country the bears are making their large final push to get enough calories before winter to ensure they will have the body fat needed to stay in hibernation. For the camper this means they are a little more bold and pushy especially if the area suffered from a summer drought of something that reduced the fuel supply for them. If you are camping in an area that has bears make sure you do not eat in your camping tent or sleeping bags as the odor of food will attract them and you do not want to attract them to your sleeping area. Also make sure you do not have food lying around your camp and you either hang your food or use a bear container.
