It seems when you are young sleeping outdoors is no big deal and you can sleep like a rock even if you are laying on one. But once you get older camping needs to be a little more luxurious or you just cannot seem to get the sleep you need when you are out. A Coleman air mattress is the perfect solution enjoying the outdoors with the family and yet getting that sleep you need at night. These air mattresses are easy to fill up with a Coleman air pump and make it seem like you are sleeping on a cloud as opposed to the ground.

When we think of camping coolers we generally consider them to be used for keeping our food cold while we are away from home on a campout. But for those who live and camp in parts of the country where it gets really cold at night your Coleman cooler has another function that you may not be aware of. When it gets below freezing your drinks and food tends to freeze as well, but those which are tucked into a cooler will actually refrain from freezing. This means that in the morning you do not have to thaw out your water and beverages in order to have something to drink. Without your cooler keeping your drinks fluid you would have to either wait or thaw it out by boiling it.

Over the years campers have tried all kinds of ways to keep their tents warm when they are camping in the winter. From making hot water and putting it in a water bottle at their feet to all kinds of other methods. Coleman camping gear has some great camping heaters that will warm up your tent nicely so that changing your clothes or getting into your sleeping bag for the night is not nearly as cold. These heaters do a great job of heating up a tent but like most portable heaters care should be taken to avoid fires and carbon dioxide fumes.

Of course there is nothing really wrong with using an adult size sleeping bag for your child when you are camping but for a warmer nights sleep they are better off in one that fits them better. A sleeping bag is designed to keep your warm by helping you retain your own natural body heat. Therefore a sleeping bag with less extra air space has less area for your body to warm up, so that you end up being warmer in the night. Kids sleeping bags are specially designed for them and their size and will provide them a better nights sleep than a full size adult sleeping bag.

Cooking at your camp can be a little touch when you are trying to do this after the sun has set. Of course having lanterns and flashlights help but sometimes you need a light that concentrates on your camp stove to be able to see what you are doing while you cook. Camp Chef has thought of this for you and they have a handy light, which attaches to their camping stoves so that you will be able to clearly see what you are cooking to ensure that you food is cooked to perfection even if there is little natural light to see with.

Once you decide you will no longer be camping at developed campgrounds then you will need to decide just how much comfort you are willing to give up. Of course there is camping gear available to make your trip just as comfortable as staying in a developed campground if you are willing to make the investment. One of the first things you notice but roughing it is the lack of tables to use while you are making your meals and eating them. Luckily there are plenty of folding Coleman camping tables available that are affordable, easy to set up, and small enough to transport. These tables make all the difference in being able to conveniently make your meal without getting lots of dirt into your food.

Many campers debate on whether they should use a camping cot or an air mattress when they go camping. Both of these options can help you get a great night sleep outdoors but of course this decision will be totally based on your personal preference. A camping cot will get you off the ground, which is great for cooler temperatures, and they have more of a bed type of feel. While a Coleman air mattress is a much softer surface but some feel that it is too soft. A cot does not require inflation and will not let you down in the event of a hole. While a camping air mattress gives you more room to sleep in. Either choice will be a great alternative to giving you a more comfortable night outdoors.

For many the family camping tent is an expensive part of their camping gear they hope they will be able to use for several seasons. Of course the weakest part of any tent is the floor though not by design. Many such as Coleman tents have extra tough bottoms but that still does not totally protect them from sharp rocks and sticks that a user may set them up on. For a little extra protection for your tent from these hazards a tent footprint is a great way to help protect the bottom of your tent from rips and tears.

One complaint many campers have is there is not enough light sometimes at night especially for some activities. Coleman lanterns do a great job of lighting up your campsite but sometimes you need an even brighter light than that concentrated in one area. For these times you can add a reflector onto your Coleman lanterns to intensify the light coming from the flame and get a more directed, brighter light. This is perfect for doing dishes or playing a game with the family. If you have never used a reflector before on your lantern you will be pleasantly surprised with how it can intensify the light coming from the lantern.

Winter camping can be real fun and having a Coleman heater can really take the chill out of the air. Of course with all heaters it is important that you use them correctly for the safety of everyone that is around them. Using a camping heater in your tent can be dangerous if certain measures are not taken. Your camping tent should be well ventilated since a heater uses up oxygen and creates carbon monoxide when it operates. This will ensure that there is plenty of oxygen around for both you and the heater to breathe. It is also very important to keep everything at least two feet away from the heater to ensure that a fire does not start. A Coleman camping heater is easy to use and makes camping warmer as long as proper care is taken for safety.

A Coleman camping stove is one of the most durable longest lasting camp stoves on the market, but if proper care is not taken with them they will just not work as well. For the most part you should wipe down your stove with warm water after each use to help avoid excessive buildup on the unit. For a more thorough cleaning you should remove the burners and clean around the manifold with dishwashing soap and water. For excessive build up of grease on the camping stove you can use a power sprayer with dish soap. Of course it is important to make sure that your stove is completely dry before you store it away to avoid in rust from starting on the metal of the unit.

When I first started camping I used my cookware from my own kitchen to cook with on our trips and did not realize that there was much better options available. Transporting my kitchen cookware to campgrounds was actually a real pain since it was a little on the big side and was definitely on the heavy side. I eventually discovered that many companies such as GSI and Coleman made cookware just for campers. These camping pots and pans were extremely lightweight but yet even more durable than my heavy set from home. Many are also easy to clean and make cooking over a Camp Chef grill or even on hot coals from the fire a real breeze.

Many campers use the shorter darker days of winter to learn new skills they can use on their camping trips for the upcoming season. One skill that many overlook that can really become important one day is the ability to handle a medical emergency in the outdoors. First aid is something that everyone in the outdoors should know and many community centers offer classes from basic to more advanced for those who want to learn this skill. Having a first aid kit as part of you camping gear and knowing how to use it can not only make your upcoming camping trips safer but could possibly save someone’s life as well.

Proper care of your food while camping is extremely important for many reasons. Of course many foods start having bacteria and germs, which can make someone sick when consumed, grow on them when they reach a certain temperature. For this reason it is important to use a quality camping cooler that will keep your food cool during the whole duration of your trip. Also not storing your food in a container that is not easily accessible for small animals is another concern. Raccoons, marmots, and many other animals will take advantage of easy to get food and leave you with none, which can ruin a good camping trip. So storing your food in camping coolers is a good all around thing to do with your food while on a trip outdoors.

Sometimes even a new camping tent needs a little help to keep the water out when you get caught in a rain shower. Some brands come with their seams pre-sealed while other brands do not and for a camper there is really no way to know for sure if your new tent is seam sealed or not. I personally do not like to sleep in a wet tent therefore I always use a seam sealer on my new tent before I ever even use it. I then reapply it to the seams at the beginning of each camping season to make sure that my camping tent will be at its best when the weather is at its worse.

For the avid outdoorsman a quality sleeping bag is a important part of their camping gear and many purchase a good bag knowing it will help them sleep well no matter what the weather is like outside of their tent. But from time to time something happens to that sleeping bag and they have to decide whether to repair or replace their bag for upcoming trips. If your sleeping bag develops a small hole and is losing its fill from that these can be easily patched using an outdoor fabric repair kit. But if the hole is larger and more of the fill has been lost the sleeping bag may not be as warm as it once was. In these cases you will be better off to go ahead and replace the bag with a new one that has all of its fill so that it can keep you warm.

One of the great things about the classic Coleman lanterns we all grew up using on our camping trips is the fact that you can replace most of the parts that are on the light. Some camping lanterns are made with cheap parts so that when one of them breaks the whole lantern becomes useless and you have to end up getting a new one. But with Coleman lanterns, replacement parts are offered so that you can keep your lantern in excellent working order without having to get a new one. There is no better lantern available for your camping trips available from any other company.

For those who camp frequently they know there is nothing quite like sleeping on a Coleman air mattress. These inflatable mattresses make sleeping on the ground just like being snuggled up in a cloud. Of course there is nothing worse than being on a camping trip and having your air mattress develop a hole so that you lose that comfort that will help you sleep well. Luckily there are repair kits for all inflatables including a camping mattress so that you can patch that hole even in the outdoors and still get that nights sleep you need to enjoy your trip.

This is my favorite time of year to drag out my camping gear and evaluate what I have, what I would like to add to my collection and what may even need replaced before spring comes. During these colder months there is less demand for camping gear plus many companies are getting ready to put out new lines in the spring so the gear that is currently available does not get any more affordable for those who need to get the best deal possible to stay in their budget. If you also throw in the factor that our economy is tight right now camping this summer sounds more like what my family will be doing. After all camping tents are always way more affordable than hotels!
